28 August 2026

Isobath · the daily place-it-on-the-map game · 2026-08-28 UTC

These were the five cities of 28 August 2026, in the order they were played. Every player in the world got the same five, in the same order — the puzzle is a pure function of the UTC date, so there is no server, no account and nothing personalised about it.

The answer map for this day: five marked points on a coastline-only world chart. 1 2 3 4 5

Where the five cities actually are. The chart is coastlines only: no borders, no country names, nothing to read off.

  1. 1Miami
  2. 2Guangzhou
  3. 3Phnom Penh
  4. 4Nagasaki
  5. 5Al Hudaydah

Round one is a city most people could find; round five is one most people could not. That escalation is deliberate — the day is meant to end somewhere you have to reason your way to rather than recall.

How Isobath works

You are never asked to name a place — you are asked to place it. Tap the blank chart where you think the city is, drag the pin until it feels right, then confirm. The score for the round is the great-circle distance between your pin and the truth, in kilometres, and the five rounds are added together, so a low total is a good total. Under 25 km is a pinpoint; under 150 km is close; under 600 km puts you in the right region. Everyone in the world plays the same five cities on the same UTC day, and the guide explains the tiers and has the tips that actually move a score.
